Background of the Study
Hypertension is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and other complications, especially in low-resource settings like Kano State. Nurses play a key role in educating patients about hypertension prevention, monitoring blood pressure, and ensuring adherence to treatment. However, in resource-constrained settings, there may be gaps in the implementation of effective strategies for preventing hypertension-related complications. This study seeks to investigate the role of nurses in preventing hypertension complications among adults in Kano State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem
Hypertension-related complications, such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease, are prevalent in Kano State, but the role of nurses in preventing these complications is not well understood. Despite nurses' potential to improve patient outcomes through education, monitoring, and management, limited resources and inadequate training may affect their ability to prevent complications effectively. This study will explore how nurses contribute to preventing hypertension-related complications and identify areas for improvement.
Objectives of the Study
To investigate the role of nurses in preventing hypertension complications in adult patients in Kano State hospitals.
To assess nurses' knowledge and practices in managing hypertension among adults.
To identify barriers to effective hypertension management in Kano State hospitals.
Research Questions
What role do nurses play in preventing hypertension complications among adults in Kano State hospitals?
How knowledgeable are nurses in Kano State about hypertension management?
What barriers do nurses face in preventing hypertension complications in Kano State hospitals?
Research Hypotheses
Nurses in Kano State hospitals significantly contribute to the prevention of hypertension-related complications through education and monitoring.
Nurses in Kano State hospitals have adequate knowledge and practice in managing hypertension.
Barriers such as lack of resources, training, and patient adherence hinder nurses' ability to prevent hypertension complications effectively.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on adult patients with hypertension in hospitals in Kano State. Limitations may include challenges in accessing a representative sample and variability in hospital resources.
